Uncle Nearest is a five-year-old brand with a 160-year-old story, and is now the fastest growing American whisky brand in history. The brand honors a formerly enslaved man and the first African American master distiller on record, Nearest Green. Working with Uncle Nearest from its launch, The Brand Guild helped put Uncle Nearest on the map, building and executing a comprehensive PR plan to position the brand as a cultural movement and the brand’s CEO, Fawn Weaver, as the founder with a mission to keep Nearest Green’s legacy alive.
Public relations and execution of press moments surrounding new product launches, brand announcements, and evergreen story outreach focused on key leadership, the whiskey itself and the incredible story behind its namesake.
Our work has elevated the profiles of CEO Fawn Weaver, the story of Nearest Green himself, and his great-great-granddaughter Victoria Eady Butler who is Uncle Nearest’s Master Blender. These efforts have resulted in national pieces in Fast Company, CNBC, Esquire, Inc., Essence, and HuffPost, among others.
Secured impactful media coverage in both trade and consumer publications, resulting in over 121 million impressions within the first four months of the project. In addition, facilitated in-person meetings resulting in feature placements, and executed a well-attended media dinner that served as a brand introduction.
